Mount Langi Ghiran 2021 Cliff Edge Shiraz, Granmpians Victoria
Description
The 2021 Mount Langi Ghiran Cliff Edge Shiraz from the Grampians, Victoria, captures the essence of cool-climate Australian Shiraz with poise and depth. Sourced from estate vineyards planted on granite-sand soils at the base of Mount Langi Ghiran, the wine benefits from the mountain’s cooling influence, which extends ripening and preserves natural acidity. The 2021 season was mild and even, yielding fruit of great purity and aromatic complexity.
Fermented with natural yeasts and matured for 14 months in French oak (about 30% new), this Shiraz shows remarkable balance between ripe fruit, spice, and structure. The bouquet opens with vibrant aromas of black and red cherries, raspberry, and boysenberry, layered with hints of white pepper, clove, and subtle oak. On the palate, it’s both juicy and refined—bright berry fruit framed by fine tannins, earthy undertones, and a graceful line of acidity that carries through a long, pepper-spiced finish.
Elegant yet powerful, Cliff Edge 2021 embodies the classic Mount Langi Ghiran style—intense fruit expression tempered by cool-climate finesse. It’s drinking beautifully now but will reward cellaring for up to a decade, developing greater complexity and texture over time. Perfect alongside grilled lamb, roasted mushrooms, or pepper-seasoned dishes, it’s a superb showcase of Grampians Shiraz at its most balanced and expressive.
