Jonty’s Ducks Pekin White 2022

The Jonty’s Ducks Pekin White 2022 is a distinctive white blend from Avondale Wine Estate in Paarl, South Africa. This wine exemplifies Avondale’s commitment to sustainable and organic viticulture, notably employing a flock of Pekin ducks to naturally manage vineyard pests like snails, thereby reducing the need for chemical interventions .

Grape Composition: This vintage is predominantly Chenin Blanc, complemented by Roussanne, Viognier, and Semillon. The vines, aged between 17 and 29 years, are cultivated organically, yielding approximately 6–8 tons per hectare .

Winemaking Process: 

• Harvesting: Grapes were handpicked at 22°–23° Balling and pressed as whole bunches.
• Fermentation: Utilized wild yeasts at temperatures between 18–24°C.
• Aging: A portion fermented in used 500-liter oak barrels, while the remainder stayed in tanks. Both portions aged on the lees for 6–9 months with regular stirring before blending . 

Tasting Notes: Expect aromas of lime, grapefruit, pineapple, and quince, with a subtle hint of honey. The palate offers a dense, juicy profile featuring tangy peach and brie, delivering notable intensity and freshness.
