Tasting Notes:

The 2015 vintage delivers a beautifully layered and complex profile. On the nose, it offers intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, graphite, violets, and hints of cedar and tobacco. The palate is rich and full-bodied, showcasing a seamless integration of ripe dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, and a vibrant acidity that provides balance and elegance. There are underlying notes of licorice, dark chocolate, and crushed stone, reflecting the estate’s deep gravel terroir. The finish is long, refined, and deeply satisfying, with excellent aging potential.

Winemaking & Terroir:

Pontet-Canet has been a pioneer in biodynamic viticulture in Bordeaux, and by 2015, their vineyards were fully certified. This vintage benefited from a warm, dry summer followed by cooler September nights, which helped preserve acidity and freshness. The wine was vinified with minimal intervention, partially in amphorae, to enhance purity and expression of fruit.

Aging Potential:

While already showing beautifully with decanting, this vintage will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 15–25 years, gaining more complexity and secondary characteristics over time.

The review praised its full-bodied palate, laden with black and red fruit layers, supported by very firm, finely grained tannins and provocative freshness, finishing with incredible length and stunning perfume. 

• Wine Enthusiast: Also rated it 97 points, describing succulent fruits, rich tannins, and juicy acidity in perfect harmony. The review emphasized its rich, velvety texture and dense structure, noting it as a serious wine for aging, recommending consumption no earlier than 2026.

He described it as full-bodied and impeccably balanced, recommending cellaring for 5-7 years and enjoying over the following three decades.
