Chateau Latour Martillac Rouge 2020
Description
This refined and structured red comes from the prestigious Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux, France. This estate, known for producing both elegant reds and aromatic whites, crafts its Rouge from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, sourced from well-drained gravel and clay-limestone soils. The 2020 vintage, marked by warm, sunny conditions, produced ripe, concentrated fruit with balanced acidity. The wine was aged around 18–20 months in French oak barrels, 40% new, allowing the tannins to integrate beautifully and the wine to develop both depth and finesse.
In the glass, it opens with aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and dark cherry, complemented by notes of cedar, graphite, and subtle tobacco. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, showing polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and layered flavors of ripe fruit, spice, and mineral nuances. The finish is long, elegant, and lingering, making the 2020 Latour-Martillac Rouge approachable now with careful decanting, yet it has the structure to age gracefully for a decade or more, perfectly suited to pair with roasted meats or refined French cuisine.
