Description

Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, France · Cru Classé de Graves

About the estate: Located south of Bordeaux in Pessac-Léognan, Château de Fieuzal is one of the classified-growth estates of Graves. Its vineyards grow in gravel-and-sand soils, surrounded by a landscape of trees, gardens and beehives. Under Irish ownership and winemaker Stephen Carrier, the estate combines its Bordeaux heritage with an adventurous approach in the cellar, placing particular emphasis on freshness, personality and the ability of its wines to develop with age.

Tasting notes: Ripe blackberry, black cherry and currant are layered with cedar, tobacco, cocoa and the smoky, earthy character associated with Graves. Medium to full-bodied, the 2018 combines generous fruit and a velvety texture with a firm tannic backbone. Freshness keeps the richness in balance, while notes of savory spice, dark chocolate and earth carry through the finish. This is a substantial, characterful Bordeaux with both fruit depth and savory complexity.

Notable ratings: 94 points — Wine Enthusiast; 93 points — James Suckling; 93 points — Jeb Dunnuck. Wine Enthusiast highlighted its rich black fruit and structure, recommending drinking from 2025.
