2019 Château Montrose

The 2019 Château Montrose is a commanding and refined Saint‑Estèphe that brings together power, elegance, and real aging potential. On the nose, it greets you with a perfumed mix of wild berries, cassis, violets, lilac, and pencil shavings, all underpinned by warm spice and well-integrated new oak. 

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and layered, combining firm yet polished tannins with bright acidity that gives the wine energy and drive. Flavors of black cherry, plum, tobacco, gravel, and licorice build steadily, while a mineral backbone adds definition.  The texture is muscular but graceful, with a long, resonant finish that lingers on the dark fruit and graphite notes.

• Vinous (Antonio Galloni): 100 points, describing it as “rich, inky and towering in concentration … a regal wine that marries elegance with power.”  
• Wine Advocate (William Kelley): 97 points, calling it “full-bodied, layered and seamless … deep and multidimensional, with lively acids, beautifully refined tannins and a long, resonant finish.”  
• James Suckling: 97 points, noting blueberries, pepper, dried flowers, and a polished, fine, long finish.  
• Falstaff: 98 points, praising its dark berry fruit, fine sweetness, ripe tannins, and saline minerality on a persistent finish.  
• Wine Spectator: 96 points, highlighting its lush mix of berry fruits (loganberry, plum, boysenberry), floral and iron notes, and the structure that hints at long-term cellaring.
