2018 Château Brane‑Cantenac

The 2018 Château Brane‑Cantenac is a beautifully confident Margaux that strikes a compelling balance between richness and refinement. On the nose, dark black‑fruit aromas—blackberry, cassis, and mulberry—are layered with notes of tobacco leaf, cedar, spice, and a delicate floral lift, evoking rose petals and spring herbs. 

On the palate, the wine is medium‑to‑full‑bodied, with a seamless texture and a fine backbone of acidity that gives freshness and energy. The fruit core remains deeply concentrated—black cherry, cassis, and mulberry—complemented by leafiness, menthol, and darker undertones of earthy herb and cedar.  The finish is long, elegant, and perfumed, with supple yet structured tannins and a sense of poised maturity. 

Critical reception for the 2018 Brane‑Cantenac is very strong:

• Wine Enthusiast gave it 96, praising its structure, elegant black fruit, and rich tannins, and suggesting a drinking window from around 2027.  
• James Suckling awarded 95, noting its aromas of mushroom, bark, iodine, blackberries, and blackcurrants, with firm, creamy tannins and a long, persistent finish.  
• Decanter also scored it 95, highlighting its generous blackberry fruit, rich chocolate, and a drive forward on the palate.  
• Jeb Dunnuck rated it 95+, calling it one of the finest Margaux wines he’s tasted from this estate — elegant, layered, vibrant, and built to age over decades.  
• Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (Lisa Perrotti-Brown) gave it 93+, pointing out its kirsch, black raspberry, roses, forest floor, and cedar chest notes, with soft tannins and a long, perfumed finish.  
• Falstaff scored it 93, describing a dark-ruby color, ripe plum and blackberry fruit, delicate dried spice, and promising aging potential.  

In short, the 2018 Château Brane‑Cantenac is a refined, classically styled Margaux with both power and elegance. It offers immediate appeal but clearly has the structure and depth to develop beautifully over another 10–20 years.
